Comprehensive BasicsOur Comprehensive Basic is the standard for introductory courses. This course gives students a very solid foundation to begin exploring the amazing sport of rock climbing. It is intended for those with little or no climbing experience. Students learn proper techniques as they relate to top rope climbing, rappelling, belaying and top rope anchor building. Ample time is also devoted to learning the movement skills necessary to climb efficiently. The information presented combined with the highest quality instruction.

All the knots featured are useful in climbing but not all are used in the course. We suggest that you concentrate on:

• Water Knot (pg 6)
• Girth Hitch (pg 7)
• Double Fisherman’s Knot (pg 8)
• Overhand Knot (pg 10)
• Auto Block (pg 12)

If you master these knots and would like to try more, or have interest in learning to set up top rope anchors in your course we suggest you also learn these knots:

Knots for Climbers and 5’ of 6mm nylon cord and 5’ of 9/16” webbing can be picked up at Mountain Trails. The cord and webbing are the same materials that will be used on the course. This price is 10% off retail value in our shop and only available to those who are signed up to take an course.
